Blocking a Gene-Silencing Enzyme Improves Brain Cell Connections in ADNP Mouse Models
A new study examined mice carrying mutations in the Adnp gene, which is closely related to POGZ and associated with neurodevelopmental conditions including White-Sutton syndrome. The researchers found that inhibiting an enzyme called LSD1, which helps control gene activity by modifying histones, reduced synaptic deficits in these mice. These findings suggest that targeting histone-modifying enzymes may be a potential therapeutic strategy for ADNP-related and possibly related neurodevelopmental disorders.
