Drosophila Behavioral Tests for Autism Genes Including POGZ Homolog
This study describes a toolkit of behavioral tests in fruit flies (Drosophila) for studying genes linked to Autism Spectrum Disorder. The researchers demonstrate methods for measuring social interaction, repetitive grooming, aggression, courtship, and habituation learning in flies. Importantly, they show that knocking down the fly version of POGZ (called ‘row’) in neurons produces measurable deficits across these behaviors, alongside Fragile-X syndrome model flies. The methods are presented in accessible form to encourage broader use in ASD and neurodevelopmental disorder research.
