Genetic Overlap Between Congenital Heart Disease and Neuroblastoma Includes POGZ
Researchers compared rare genetic variants in over 700 children with congenital heart disease (CHD) and over 450 children with neuroblastoma, finding seven genes enriched in both groups. POGZ — a gene central to White-Sutton syndrome — was among those showing overlap, alongside other genes linked to neurodevelopmental disorders. The findings suggest shared developmental pathways between congenital anomalies and childhood cancer, potentially rooted in neural crest cell biology. Authors call for further investigation into the mechanisms connecting these conditions.
